Meet the winners of the Society’s award for the best student projects on the history of Hyde Park Township from the 2018 Chicago Metro History Fair. See the students present their projects and hear commentary by panelist: Timuel D. Black, Jr., distinguished oral historian and educator, Jay Mulberry, Former HPHS president and Chicago Public School principal, Warren J. Chapman, Ph.D., trustee of Chicago History Museum and former Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

The HPHS Award winners and their projects are:

Sohil Manek, Nicholas Merchant, and Tedddy Neer, University of Chicago Laboratory High School, Chicago. Documentary: “Laughter is the Best Weapon: Dick Gregory’s Hilarious Fight For Civil Rights.”

Tobin GInschel, Ellory Morrow,and Sarah Rovner, Lincoln Park High School, Chicago. Website: “Harold Washington and the Council Wars.”

Also featured is the winner of the Leon Depres Award for Legal/Political History:

Juhui Jin, Lincoln Park High School, Chicago. Paper: “Shakman Decrees.”
