Everywhere You Don't Belong by Gabriel Bump (Zoom Video)

The Hyde Park Book Club hosted this event on Monday, March 15, 2021

We had the pleasure of welcoming Gabriel Bump, author of Everywhere You Don’t Belong, and 2020 winner of the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence in fiction by African American authors. This is his debut novel.

The novel is set in the South Side of Chicago and tells the story of the coming-of-age of Claude McKay Love. As a young Black man born in the South Shore neighborhood, Love is ra ised by his civil rights-era grandmother, who tries to shape him into a principled actor for change. But Claude is just an average kid coping with abandonment, riots and failed love.
